Business Description: Caraustar is the second largest North American producer of spiral- and convolute-wound tubes, cores and composite containers. The Company's 34 tube, core and can converting facilities serve a broad market, including paper mill cores, film, construction tubes, yarn carriers, carpet cores, and mailing tubes.

1998 Highlights: During 1998, total volume of the tube, core and can market decreased by approximately 4.9 percent to 1,374 thousand tons from 1,445 thousand tons in 1997. Caraustar sales of tube and core products increased by 0.5 percent to 264 thousand tons in 1998.
