Second Indication: Catheter Occlusion
Obstruction of flow through an in-dwelling catheter by a clot
- Catheters primarily inserted in patients receiving life-saving medications (i.e. chemotherapy)
~5 million catheters inserted annually in the U.S.
- ~20-25% of these catheters (~1-1.25 million) become obstructed
Current treatment: surgical removal/replacement of catheter or Cathflo®Activase® (alteplase)
Restoring flow preferred over replacement
- limited interruption of therapy, reduced risk of trauma and complications and decreased cost
