RURAL CELLULAR CORPORATION
Breaking the Sound Barrier
In 1990, 40 independent rural telephone companies merged their cellular partnership interests to become Rural Cellular Corporation, based in Alexandria,
Minnesota. Four years later the company had turned a profit, becoming one of the first cellular providers in the United States to be profitable. Another four years has passed, and the company has grown by expansion, development and acquisition. It stands on the brink of becoming a truly full-service telecommunications provider.
Breakthroughs in communications technology are virtually a daily occurrence. Improved phones, clearer transmissions, better coverage, more services; there are systems available to provide sophisticated communications
for every contemporary business and personal need. But there is one part of the sound barrier that most
companies can't bridge...listening. Listening is what distinguishes the leaders from the rest.
RCC listens to the market, and responds with the kind of service the market wants. Whether a new technology
or a new territory, RCC moves with the acumen and agility required by the fast pace of the telecommunications
industry. It listens, selects the technology then matches it with demand. That is the intuition, innovation and
initiative that have enabled Rural Cellular Corporation to break into the leadership position.
