Product Innovations Strengthen Industrial & Consumer
Products Group (ICPG) Competitive Market Position

New approaches to existing products also benefited the Industrial & Consumer Products Group customers in industries such as fiber glass manufacturing. The ICPG's Industrial Division developed a more durable forming tube for the industry that is more resistant to damage from automated unloading equipment, which removes tubes holding

fiber glass from the wind-up stations in manufacturing facilities. The ICPG also continues to develop and field test other types of long-life forming tubes for the fiber glass industry.

Other recently introduced products include new paper tubes for the fast-growing aluminum drive shaft segment of the automotive industry. To reduce the transmission of noise through the shafts, manufacturers insert these tubes into hollow areas of the drive shafts before sealing their ends. The ICPG customizes these tubes to fit a variety of drive shafts and tests each new variation to ensure maximum performance. The ICPG also developed "no rub" identifying inks, more flexible adhesives and improved surface coatings for fiber glass forming tubes. These coatings and inks

stand up to extremely high temperatures, present when molten glass fibers are extruded, as well as water and other chemicals which are used to cool the glass. The ICPG developed these new inks to minimize the risk of contaminating the fiber glass filaments, which can occur when coatings or inks applied to tube interiors for identification purposes, rub off or "run".

Protect-A-Board provides product protection and enhances stability of palletized packaging.

The ICPG also added EZ-STIK to the company's line of Protect-A-Board edge and strap protectors for palletized packaging. This protective packaging product has an adhesive liner which is wider than the adhesive strip, making it easier to remove and apply Protect-A-Board to the inside of a carton or the outside of palletized freight. EZ-STIK reduces overall costs and speeds up the packaging process by eliminating the need for employees to hold edge protectors in place while stretch film or strapping is applied.

New Production Capabilities Expand Our Presence in Consumer Markets

The ICPG’s new manufacturing facility in Stevens Point, Wisconsin expanded the Consumer Product Division’s position in the food product packaging market. This facility, established in conjunction with a long-term supply agreement with a private label food manufacturer, manufactures a composite can with a paper bottom, instead of the traditional metal bottom. The new container is designed for packaging powdered beverages, cereals, snack foods and a variety of other food products.
