through which the Stewart family begins to establish its reputation in the
monument and memorial construction industry. |

serving the needs of the New Orleans community. |

Charles and Frank
Stewart, Sr., sons of Albert Stewart, enter the family business. The monument
and memorial construction business begins expanding in New Orleans, primarily
in Metairie Cemetery, and throughout southeast Louisiana. |

The development
of small family mausolea, vaults and crypts in company-owned cemeteries
and others' cemeteries continues. The business begins selling prearrangements. |

The Stewarts
establish Lake Lawn Park Cemetery in New Orleans and develop a large perpetual
care, community mausoleum, in which there are now more than 31,000 crypts. |

The selling of
prearrangements quickly spread from property in Lake Lawn Park to preneed
selling for community mausolea to be constructed in others' cemeteries by
Acme. |

In July, Frank
B. Stewart, Jr. begins working with his father, grandfather and uncle at
the Stewart family business. |

Expansion continues,
primarily in mausoleum development through Acme Marble & Granite Co., Inc.
and Acme Mausoleum Corporation. |

The Stewart family
acquires the historic Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans. |

After the deaths
in the mid-sixties of Frank B. Stewart, Jr.'s grandfather, father and uncle,
the family consolidates its holdings and incorporates as Stewart Enterprises,
Inc. |

In June, the
official dedication of the new Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home in Metairie
Cemetery marks the opening of the first combination operation in Louisiana
and in the Company. |

In December,
the Company makes its first acquisition outside of Louisiana: Restland Memorial
Park and Funeral Home, the largest death care provider in Texas, plus Laurel
Land Funeral Home and Cemetery and Singing Hills Funeral Home in Dallas,
Texas. |

Operations expand
to Florida, Maryland and West Virginia. By this time, the Company had completed
over 600 mausoleum projects for outside clients, predominantly Catholic
dioceses throughout the United States. |

All Saints Mausoleum
opens in Metairie Cemetery, a joint venture between Stewart and the Archdiocese
of New Orleans. |

During this decade,
Stewart expands operations to 30 states and 12 countries. |

The Company holds
its initial public offering in October and begins trading on the Nasdaq
National Market System with the ticker symbol STEI. |

The Company makes
its first acquisition outside the continental U.S. in Puerto Rico with the
purchase of Los Cipreses Memorial Park. Also, the Company opens its first
funeral home on the grounds of a non-profit cemetery, All Faiths Funeral
Home in Greenwood Cemetery. |

Stewart expands
to Mexico and to Australia. |

Stewart expands
to New Zealand, and to Canada with the largest acquisition to date: 77 funeral
homes and five cemeteries in Montreal and Québec. Also, the Company's
Shared Services Center is established in New Orleans. |

Sentinel Cremation
Societies, Inc., the largest cremation society in the United States and
the leading alternative-services firm in California, is acquired. |

Stewart enters
Europe with an acquisition in Spain. |

The Archdiocese
of Los Angeles selects Stewart Enterprises, Inc. to construct and operate
funeral homes on six of their largest cemeteries. |

The Company expands
to Portugal in September and to the Netherlands in December. |

The Company enters
South America with an acquisition in Argentina. |

Growth in Europe
continues with expansion to France and to Belgium. |

In August, plans
are announced to build and operate three additional funeral homes in cemeteries
owned by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in California. |

Also in August,
an agreement is signed with the Wyuka Cemetery Board of Trustees to build
and operate a funeral home in Wyuka Cemetery, a state-chartered cemetery
in Lincoln, Nebraska. |

Over 200,000
families around the world were served by more than 11,200 dedicated employees
during this year. |
