> Millipore launched its online store in the U.S. where customers can purchase and pay for the company’s laboratory consumable products from its website.

> U.S. President Bill Clinton named Millipore employee Tom Britton to the Chair of the Commission on Presidential Scholars, which recognizes and honors the most distinguished graduating high school seniors in the United States

> Millipore employees Wilson Moya and Joe Zahka received the company’s highest honor for technical accomplishment, the Jack Bush Award for Innovation, for their development of QuickChange®, the first non-dewetting PTFE filter on the market used in semiconductor manufacturing. The award is named for Millipore’s late founder.

> The European Shared Services Center, for finance and administrative functions, opened in Entzeim, France.

> Millipore’s manufacturing facility in Yonezawa, Japan achieved ISO 14001 certification — the Environmental Management Standard.
