41% Increase in Capacity

The acquisition by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. of Celebrity Cruises created one fleet with 16 ships and 29,200 berths. Royal Caribbean International began the year with 11 ships; transferred Song of Norway - its first ship - to new owners in February; took delivery of its fourth Vision-class ship, Rhapsody of the Seas,in April; took possession of its fifth Vision ship, Enchantment of the Seas, in July; and sold Sun Viking in October. Celebrity Cruises started the year with five ships; sold Meridian in September; and took delivery of its third Century-class ship, Mercury, in October. The combined fleet is the youngest of the major cruise lines.
