The acquisition by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. of Celebrity Cruises created one fleet with 16 ships and 29,200 berths. Royal Caribbean International began the year with 11 ships; transferred Song of Norway - its first ship - to new owners in February; took delivery of its fourth Vision-class ship, Rhapsody of the Seas,in April; took possession of its fifth Vision ship, Enchantment of the Seas, in July; and sold Sun Viking in October. Celebrity Cruises started the year with five ships; sold Meridian in September; and took delivery of its third Century-class ship, Mercury, in October. The combined fleet is the youngest of the major cruise lines. |
