In Memoriam

L.C. Heist

1931-1999

On behalf of the employees and the board of directors of Ryland, we gratefully acknowledge the life and contributions of L.C. Heist, who passed away on January 19, 1999. Known as "Whitey" to his friends and colleagues, he served on Ryland's board since 1989. We will miss the value of his insight, guidance, and direction, which contributed greatly to the growth and success of Ryland. Mr. Heist's career with Champion, a forest products company with headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut, spanned 39 years. He was named president and chief operating officer and elected to the board of directors of Champion in 1987. He served in this capacity until his retirement in 1996. He is dearly missed.
