Notes:
Over the past ten years, Symbol has been a key developer of product offerings within the government-regulated, license-free wireless band.
At first, our vertical market customers needed low data-rate solutions (256 kilobits) but in recent years they have looked to us for solutions that incorporate high data-rates (1,2,10 and 11 Mbps at 2.4 GHz) with voice applications (voice over IP). We were one of the first to endorse IEEE 802.11 as the industry standard. Our vision was right.
Current versions of 802.11(b) have become “the standard” (WLANs) and have been developed by Symbol/Intel and other industry players, such as Agere and Cisco. Although all competitive access points (the “backbone”) comply with the standard, performance in actual use (based on value-add capabilities) varies among the competitors. For vertical market applications, Symbol has been proven to offer the best solution.
