Power Additions: Demand Growth
Power additions continue to feed gas demand growth.
54 GW scheduled to come on line in 2001 (20 year high)
- 75% added in the East region
- Future additions required as power additions will not alleviate regional demand/supply imbalances
Impact on gas consumption constrained by:
- Delays or cancellation of up to approx 20 GW
- Effect of slowing economy on peaking plant utilization
- Degree to which new plants replace older gas plants
35 GW would add 1.3 - 4.5 Bcf/d of gas demand.
