The
property swap with Verizon (formerly GTE, Bell Atlantic
|
|
and
Vodafone AirTouch) enhanced ALLTEL's presence in the
|
|
Southeastern
United States with stronger geographic clustering,
|
|
three
large metro markets and an immediate 15 percent increase
|
|
in
our wireless customer base. We also increased our geographic
|
|
footprint
in Ohio and the Southwest as part of the same
|
|
agreement, while additional
acquisitions in Louisiana later in the
|
|
year
gave us Gulf Coast coverage from New Orleans to southern
|
|
Florida.
In total, the year saw our communications customer base
|
|
grow
to more than 10 million.
