Key milestones were achieved in two subsidiaries: Millipore Brazil, 25th anniversary; Millipore Korea, 10th anniversary.

_In December, Millipore announced that it entered into an agreement with Applied Biosystems to jointly develop and market next-generation sample preparation consumables for high-throughput proteomics.

_Fisher Scientific named Millipore its “Supplier of the Year” for the third year in a row.

_In May, Millipore announced that it formed an alliance with BOC Edwards to develop and market an integrated bath regeneration system for copper electrochemical deposition (ECD) applications in the semiconductor industry.

_Millipore was named to Working Mother magazine’s list of the “100 Best Companies for Working Mothers.” This is the fourth time that Millipore was named to this prestigious list.

_The Millipore Foundation celebrated its 15th year of supporting scientific and technological education programs, improving the quality of life in Millipore’s U.S. communities, and supporting employees’ volunteer efforts. In 2000, the Foundation gave $771,000 to 91 eligible organizations and provided $424,000 in matching gifts for U.S. employee donations.

_Millipore employees Fumio Nozaki, Kuniyoshi Takahara and Rob Zeller received the company’s highest honor for technical accomplishment, the Jack Bush Award for Innovation, for their development of two key versions of Millipore’s nickel membrane filter — the first cost-effective solution for filtering gases in the corrosive environment of the semiconductor manufacturing process.

_A team of nine Millipore employees from Japan and the U.S. received the company’s highest honor for customer satisfaction, the Jack Mulvany Award for Customer Satisfaction, for their development of an innovative filtration and dispense pump that met a key Microelectronics OEM’s exact specifications.

_Millipore’s manufacturing facilities in Cork, Ireland and Jaffrey, New Hampshire achieved ISO 14001 certification — the Environmental Management Standard.

_Millipore’s manufacturing operations worldwide continued to improve their efficiencies and exceed environmental milestones. In 2000, 44 percent of the solid waste generated was recycled. Since 1990, all manufacturing plants worldwide have reduced the total amount of chemical emissions by more than 70 percent.
