In 2000, the safety-first Company was accepted into the American Chemistry Association’s Responsible Care® program as a partner carrier. The membership acknowledges Landstar’s commitment to ensuring safe transportation and immediate response to any type of chemical emergency that might arise in transit. The program also encourages pro-active participation in community environmental concerns.

Last October, Landstar honored a record 384 Million Mile Safe Drivers, including two Three Million and six Two Million Milers, for achieving what few others have — driving one million consecutive accident and claim-free miles. Driving a million miles is the approximate equivalent of 357 trips from New York to Los Angeles. It takes roughly 10 years for a truck operator to travel a million miles. That’s 10 years on the job without making a single mistake — quite an accomplishment.

Landstar keeps its small business owners aware of new safety-related technology and, through LCAPP, arranges for deep discounts on many items purchased by its business capacity owners. The program uses the Company’s purchasing leverage to help business capacity owners reduce their cost of doing business. LCAPP offers discounts on everything from trucks and trailers to fuel, wireless Internet ready phones and devices and flowers. In 2000, Landstar business capacity owners bought or financed 419 new tractors, 232 new or used trailers, approximately 35,000 tires and saved $2.3 million in fuel costs through LCAPP.

Today’s economic environment presents Landstar with great opportunities to grow and prosper. Through its ongoing commitment to initiating and developing long-term dependable relationships with new business partners, Landstar continues to work with independent sales agents, business capacity owners, shippers and the motoring public — building success together.
