Notes:
- Let me start with quick overview of company for those not well acquainted with MOND.
- It is approaching 40 years since Robert Mondavi created the winery and helped launch California premium wine industry. In 1993, we took the company public to provide better access to capital to grow the business and we currently have a $450 million market cap, at $27 per share.
- Our strategy is to produce and market leading brands across the premium wine spectrum and we have some of the best-known and strongest brands in the global wine business in our portfolio. Since our IPO, our brands net revenue has grown an average of more than 10% per year.
- Brand and family are closely linked and the Robert Mondavi family still provides the vision for winemaking and our quality image.
- One of our distinctive strategies is our joint venture approach where we have formed partnerships with leading producers in some of of the world’s premium winegrowing regions which gives the company access both to high-quality wine grapes and high-opportunity wine markets.
- Complementing the family vision is a team of professional managers with deep experience in industry and an excellent board that includes six outsiders with vital financial, marketing and luxury goods expertise to help direct the company’s strategic thinking.
- The premium wine market is still very fragmented, and while the industry has temporarily slowed from the 10% annual growth seen during the 90’s to 4 to 5% growth rate today, the well-positioned players with strong brands – such as MOND – have great opportunities and competitive advantages in the future.
