In a world of extended warranty periods, drivers are demanding that their cars not only run longer, but look good longer, too. When American automakers turned to DuPont's Performance Coating Group for an answer, DuPont turned to Crompton.

DuPont developed a family of clearcoat automotive finishes that provide a high-gloss finish, and protect paint from acid rain and chipping. Today's automotive paint finishes have several layers, from the anti-corrosion coating to a layer of color. A DuPont clearcoat is the final layer applied, giving cars and trucks a longer-lasting new car finish.

Crompton's Silquest® silane is a critical ingredient of DuPont's new clearcoat technology. The silane gives the coating the right degree of flexibility, allowing the finish to resist chipping, and helps maintain paint adhesion and gloss for years under the most extreme conditions.
