IN 2002, FULLER PROVED ONCE AGAIN THAT IT IS A GOOD, SOLID COMPANY. WE WANT TO BECOME A GREAT COMPANY, ONE THAT PROVIDES YOU WITH A GREAT INCENTIVE FOR REMAINING A SHAREHOLDER. TO DO SO, WE MUST – AND WILL – MAINTAIN OUR INTENSE FOCUS ON PROFITABLE GROWTH, WHILE CONTINUING TO IMPROVE OUR OPERATIONS.
THE YEAR AHEAD WILL NOT BE EASY. THE ECONOMIC OUTLOOK REMAINS SUBDUED, AND THE WAR IN IRAQ HAS MUCH OF THE WORLD TAKING A “WAIT AND SEE” ATTITUDE. THE EXPECTED AND MUCH HOPED FOR ECONOMIC TURNAROUND HAS MOVED YET ANOTHER YEAR, TO THE SECOND OF HALF OF 2003 – AND EVEN THAT PREDICTION IS SOMETIMES TONGUE IN CHEEK AND LACKS PROPER CONVICTION.
WHILE WE MUST REALISTICALLY TEMPER OUR EXPECTATIONS, WE WILL STILL SEEK THE BEST POSSIBLE PERFORMANCE IN THE CIRCUMSTANCES.
TO ASSIST US, WE HAVE UNDERTAKEN TWO KEY ACTIVITIES. THE FIRST IS A CORPORATE SALES GROWTH TEAM THAT IS WORKING TO IDENTIFY OBSTACLES TO GROWTH. RESULTING INITIATIVES AND STRATEGIES SHOULD HELP US OVERCOME THOSE OBSTACLES AND LEVERAGE OUR CAPABILITES MORE EFFICIENTLY.
THE SECOND ACTIVITY IS THE FORMATION OF A PROGRAM MANAGEMENT OFFICE, AND THE ADOPTION OF LEAN SIX SIGMA. DURING THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS, WE HAVE UNDERTAKEN MANY PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS TO SPEED US ALONG OUR JOURNEY. OUR SUCCESS AT EXECUTING THESE HAS EMBOLDENED US TO TACKLE INCREASINGLY COMPLEX AND DIFFICULT INITIATIVES THAT RELY ON BROAD SUPPORT AND INVOLVEMENT ACROSS DEPARTMENTS, DIVISIONS AND REGIONS.
THE PROGRAM MANAGEMENT OFFICE, LED BY STEVE LARGE, OUR CHIEF PROCESS improvement OFFICER, WILL ENSURE THAT THESE INITIATIVES ARE PRIORITIZED, COORDINATED AND SUBJECT TO AN AGGRESSIVE TIMELINE. HE WILL ALSO MAKE CERTAIN THAT INITIATIVES HAVE ACCESS TO THE BEST TALENT IN OUR COMPANY TO MAXIMIZE THE PROFITABILITY IMPACT OF THESE PROGRAMS.
UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE PROGRAM MANAGEMENT OFFICE, WE WILL INCORPORATE LEAN SIX SIGMA AND MAKE IT PART OF THE CULTURE OF OUR ORGANIZATION. ITS SUCCESS AT INCREASING EFFICIENCIES AND ACHIEVING HIGHER PERFORMANCE LEVELS IN OTHER COMPANIES CANNOT BE DENIED, AND WE ARE CONVINCED THAT FULLER TODAY HAS THE TALENT AND DRIVE TO SUCCESSFULLY APPLY IT PRINCIPLES.
