INTRODUCTION OF CHRISTOPHER M. SCHROEDER
Chief Executive Officer and Publisher
Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive

MR. GRAHAM: I want to introduce Chris Schroeder and ask him to talk about progress at Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive (or WPNI), the company that is responsible for washingtonpost.com and Newsweek.msnbc.com.

I mentioned that circulation of The Washington Post has been declining slightly in recent years, but readership of Washington Post journalism is at an all-time high, thanks to washingtonpost.com.

The site begins with articles and pictures produced by the newspaper staff, then goes on to add much more. WPNI gives Post and Newsweek journalism distribution far wider and faster than they've ever enjoyed.

Chris has led this organization very ably indeed and has assembled a superlative management team, including COO Caroline Little. Chris came to The Post Company in 1995 as director of corporate strategy. He then ran our Legi-Slate data base publishing division, moved to WPNI three years ago as chief operating officer, and took over as CEO in early 2000.

I believe that much of the company's future hangs on the growth of revenue, of traffic, and of business results at WPNI. Chris has good news to report on progress on all of those fronts.
