EDWARD J. ZANDER
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Motorola, Inc.

Ed Zander is chairman and chief executive officer of Motorola, Inc. He joined Motorola in this capacity on January 5, 2004.

Ed brings more than 25 years of experience in technology companies. Most recently, he was a managing director of Silver Lake Partners, a leading private equity fund focused on investments in technology industries.

Prior to Silver Lake Partners, Ed was president and chief operating officer of Sun Microsystems until June 2002. During his tenure, he grew Sun to $18 billion in revenues, established it as the number-one company in the server market and built it to be a pre-eminent supplier of network infrastructure. He oversaw the company's manufacturing, research and development, sales and marketing as well as clearly established Sun as an industry leader in systems and software.

Earlier, Ed served as president of Sun's software group, where he oversaw the development and marketing of Solaris and led Sun's network management, PC integration and software product suites. Prior to joining Sun in 1987, he held senior management positions at Apollo Computer and Data General.

Ed serves on the board of directors of Seagate Technology. He also is a director of several educational and non-profit organisations, including the Jason Foundation for Education, the science advisory board of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the advisory board of the School of Management of Boston University.

He holds an M.B.A. degree from Boston University and a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
