Mike Zafirovski is president and chief operating officer of Motorola, Inc. a position he has held since July, 2002. He and Ed Zander, chairman and chief executive officer, compose the two-person office of the chairman that leads Motorola.
Mike joined Motorola in June 2000 to lead the Personal Communications Sector (wireless handsets, related software and consumer two-way radio) Motorola's largest business segment. During his tenure, Motorola's handset business increased market share, returned to profitability and introduced a new global marketing campaign.
Prior to joining Motorola, Mike spent 24 years at General Electric, joining its financial leadership programme in 1975. In 1978, he was promoted to the GE corporate audit staff, a key training assignment for leadership talent in the company. For the next three-and-a-half years, he conducted financial and operational reviews at nine of the company businesses on five continents. From 1982 to 2000, he held a series of increasingly senior positions in finance, marketing, business development and general management, including 13 years as president and CEO of five businesses:

Mike holds a B.S. degree in mathematics from Edinboro University in Pennsylvania, where he also captained the intercollegiate soccer and swimming teams. In 2002, Edinboro University conferred on Mike an honorary doctorate degree.
Mike serves on the board of directors of Motorola, United Way of Lake County, Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago and the Economic Club of Chicago. In the past, he has served on the board of Cleveland Tomorrow, United Way of Cleveland, Business in the Community - London and other civic organisations.
