Motorola at 3GSM World Congress: What’s now, What’s new, What’s next?

Changing communications in 2004 and beyond – A21; Hall 1

CANNES, France, 3GSM World Congress, February 23, 2004 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT), continues to enable people to interact in more new and compelling ways. Today it unveils how it is working with its customers to transform the perception of 3G phones from high-end, high-priced gadgets to the next, must-have-consumer devices for the youth market, as well as driving the next communications phenomenon – Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PoC). This combined with its latest handsets make Motorola the brand to watch in 2004.

With its leadership in 3G and new mobile communications, Motorola handsets are morphing into new designs, new forms with new features and functions and the company’s Mobile Broadband solution will power the next generation of communication.

“We believe intelligent products can unleash personal potential and ignite whole new possibilities,” said Ed Zander, chairman and chief executive officer of Motorola, Inc. “The challenge is to create a world of Intelligence Everywhere. This needs a company with a great global brand, strong financial assets, rich and ever-newer patents and an unquenchable passion for innovation and R&D. Motorola has all of these things and we’re proving it here in Cannes.”

The next big thing - Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PoC)
Motorola is giving the European consumer market the opportunity to give their thumbs a rest. Push-to-Talk, message, play, share…push-to-everything! Motorola believes that, once European consumers become familiar with the new possibilities this technology enables, uptake will match or exceed the growth in North America and deliver potential new revenue opportunities for European operators.

Building on its existing experience and dedicated PoC handset portfolio, Motorola today announces that its PoC client license is now available for use by other device manufacturers. In addition to this its new Motorola IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) compliments the previously announced Motorola SoftSwitch (MSS) and PoC core product initiatives. This continues the momentum towards developing fully converged core networks for wireless operators that will enable synchronized voice, data and multimedia applications.

Leading the 3G evolution
Motorola’s enthusiasm, drive and commitment to 3G is alive in Cannes. After launching the first commercial 3G mobile phone in 2002, Motorola today showcases its fourth generation of 3G handsets. These include:

  • The Motorola E1000 - 3G at play

  • Monster 3G entertainment in a 2.5G sized package. The E1000 is the latest in mobility in a small, lightweight and stylish design. This device is the first Motorola 3G handset to support PoC.
  • The Motorola A1000 –Mobile everything!

  • A sleek convergence device for active business professionals. The A1000 is the tool for the job, keeping you stylish and on the cutting edge of technology.

These handsets compliment Motorola’s complete 3G solution – the most stable network with the best coverage and the largest capacity offered by any other manufacturer on the market.
