An IP host that maintains network connectivity using its “home” IP address, regardless of subnet (or network) to which it is connected
Provides addressable point of attachment to Mobile Node called Care Of Address (COA)
Maintains an awareness for all visiting Mobile Nodes
Acts as a ‘relay’ between Mobile Node and its Home Agent
Receives all packets for Mobile Node from Home Agent
Maintains association between Mobile Node “home” IP address and its care of address (loaned address) on foreign network
Redirects and tunnels packets to care of address on foreign network
Destination IP host in session with Mobile Node
