MR. RICHARD BARRETT

Mr. Barrett moved to China in 2004 to establish
Forterra. He started his career in Agricommodities
with R Barrett & Co Ltd, his family holding company
from 1977 to 1987. Since 1987, he has been in the
investment sector beginning with Rivoli Investment
Co. He is also a director/shareholder of a number
of private wind farms, waste-to-energy and solar
energy technology companies in Ireland and Europe.
Mr. Barrett was awarded the Ernst & Young Industry
Entrepreneur of the Year in 2007. He has served
on the Advisory Board of the Graduate School of
Design at Harvard University from 2005 to 2008
and is a Senior Research Fellow of the Asian
Competitiveness Institute at the Lee Kuan Yew
School of Public Policy in Singapore, part of the
National University of Singapore. Mr. Barrett has
been Guest Lecturer at Harvard University, ESADE
Barcelona, Trinity College Dublin, Kings Inns Dublin,
the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland, Royal
Society of Chartered Surveyors (HK), United Nations
Sustainability Conference in South East Asian and at
numerous other conferences.
Mr. Barrett is a double graduate in Economics, holds
a postgraduate degree in Law from Trinity College,
Dublin and is a Barrister at Law of the King’s Inns,
Dublin. He holds a Diploma in French Language from
Institut de Francais, Villefranche sur Mer, France
and a Diploma in Spanish Language from ESADE,
Barcelona, Spain. Mr. Barrett has also authored
numerous publications and articles on Real Estate,
China and Renewable Energy.
Mr. Barrett stood down as Chairman of Board on
15 October 2012.
MR. XU SITAO

Mr. Xu is Deputy Chairman of the Board. He has
a wealth of experience in China related business
activities having previously worked in senior
positions as an economist for international
organisations including Industrial & Commercial
Bank of China in Hong Kong, Societe Generale in
Hong Kong, Standard Chartered Bank in Hong Kong,
MMS International and Standard & Poor’s Group
Singapore. He is currently the Chief Representative
in China for the Economist Group.
In addition to this, Mr. Xu has acted in an advisory
role to a number of Hedge Funds in the United
Kingdom and Hong Kong providing advice on
matters such as China coverage for macro-hedge
funds, private banking and asset allocation in China.
He has also lectured on management and economics
at the Tsinghua University in China, the Cheung
Kong Graduate School of Business in China and the
Hoover Institution, Stanford University in America.
Mr. Xu has strong relationships with Government
Agencies, regulators and the business community
within China and is regularly involved in workshops
and seminars attended by wide-ranging sectors of
the Government and business community to consider
China’s economy and business environment.
He contributes to analysis and coverage of China for
the in-house publications of the Economist Group. In
addition he also contributes to Caijing, South China
Morning Post, the Financial Times and the Asian Wall
Street Journal.
