Caring

Allstaters are a force for good in society. Whether it’s through the charitable giving of The Allstate Foundation or the passionate volunteering of our agency owners, financial specialists and employees, we are proudly partnering in the important work of building and strengthening communities across our country. In 2017 alone, The Allstate Foundation, Allstate, its employees and agency owners gave $47 million in charitable contributions, and Allstaters reported 258,800 hours of service to support local communities. From helping domestic abuse survivors attain financial freedom to encouraging young people to become agents of positive change in their communities, we embody the belief that corporations can make the world a better place.

Doing good is who we are

Allstate employees, agency owners and their staffs are passionate about giving back throughout the year, but during our annual Bring Out the Good Month in April, there’s a special focus on helping communities. Last year, 22,187 Allstaters donated more than $7.3 million to charitable causes, marking the second consecutive year our campaign raised more than $7 million. In addition, 12,867 Allstaters worked on 871 volunteer projects, supporting 374 local nonprofit schools, parks, food banks, domestic violence shelters and youth organizations. Beyond that, through our ongoing Helping Hands® program, employees also applied for hundreds of grants for the nonprofits where they already volunteer.

Allstate Foundation Purple Purse offers financial freedom to domestic abuse survivors

For over a decade, Purple Purse has helped domestic violence survivors develop the financial independence to break free from their abusers and support themselves and their children. Last year, more than 200 nonprofits competed in the Purple Purse Challenge, raising a total of $4.18 million through fundraising and $700,000 in prize money provided by The Allstate Foundation. Agency owners around the country teamed up for local efforts, including organizing supply drives for shelters, volunteering at events for survivors, supporting domestic violence nonprofit fundraising efforts and more.

Ethical values earn Allstate spot on most ethical companies list

For the fourth year in a row, Allstate was named one of the world’s most ethical companies by the Ethisphere Institute, a global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices. The honor recognizes companies that lead with integrity and align principles with action. It underscores Allstate’s commitment to leading with integrity and prioritizing ethical business practices. Integrity is central to our business. We believe doing what’s best for our customers begins and ends with operating with the highest ethical standards. We are proud of our reputation, which we have built on our values: integrity, honesty, caring, inclusive diversity, accountability and superior performance.

Encouraging youth to build a better world

Allstate Foundation Good Starts Young® is an investment in youth. It aims to inspire millions of young people to become active global citizens through real-world service-learning experiences that develop social and emotional skills. As of 2017, more than 5 million youth were participating in these programs. As a founding sponsor of WE – and through partnerships with the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning, Facing History and Ourselves, and Junior Achievement – Good Starts Young empowers youth with the tools, resources and confidence to realize their full potential. Highlights from last year include the WE Volunteer Now campaign, which encouraged youth to make positive impacts in their communities. More than 187,000 students and nearly 2,000 educators have been involved over the last three years. Another highlight was enlisting the first-ever United Nations Youth Champion and “High School Musical” star Monique Coleman as the Good Starts Young Ambassador to urge young people to plan and lead volunteer projects – all with the goal of empowering them to achieve remarkable things.

Allstate teams up with veterans to deliver career opportunities and advancement

Allstate is committed to helping U.S. veterans find jobs that position them for ongoing success. Through partnerships with organizations such as Hiring Our Heroes, Allstate looks to provide opportunities for veterans as licensed sales professionals, and, in 2017, we fielded an increased number of resumes from veterans and were a visible presence at veteran-focused job fairs. Through targeted recruiting and sponsorships, Allstate has increased military hires from 2.2 percent in 2016 to 4.9 percent in 2017. Additionally, Allstate agency owners have hired more than 100 veterans as licensed sales professionals so far this year. Late last year, GI Jobs (the premier resource in military recruitment) recognized Allstate as a top 10 “Military Friendly Employer.” With more than 5,000 eligible companies, the competition was stiff, and we are proud of the honor.
