Management Highlights and Changes

Combining our management development program with talented people who join FirstMerit through acquisitions assures a pipeline filled with talent prepared to expand our capabilities and enrich our corporate culture.

Six senior managers were promoted to Executive Vice President in 1999:

• Gary J. Elek, Corporate Development

• George D. Griffin, Auditor

• Christopher J. Maurer, Human Resources

• Richard G. Norton, Regional President & CEO, FirstMerit Bank, N.A./Akron

• Terry E. Patton, Secretary & Counsel

• William E. Stansifer, Chief Credit Policy Officer

Two senior executives were appointed to new positions:

• John R. Macso to Chairman of Mobile Consultants, Inc.

• Roberta L. Ross to Regional Manager of Private Banking in Wayne County, Western and Old Phoenix regions of FirstMerit Bank

In addition:

Terrence E. Bichsel joined as Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer; and

Larry A. Shoff joined as Executive Vice President & Chief Technology Officer.
