BECKMAN'S BIRTHDAY

Imagine It! 100 Years of Excellence. As the world ushers in a new century, the man who created and ran this company on the premise that “there is no satisfactory substitute for excellence,” begins the second century of his life. With a list of accomplishments to match his longevity, Arnold O. Beckman, Ph.D., is truly a rare centenarian. During his first hundred years, Dr. Beckman gave the world the pH meter, the scanning ultraviolet spectrophotometer, a company called Beckman Instruments, Inc., and the Arnold & Mabel Beckman Foundation, all the while making a cadre of other scientific, civic and humanitarian contributions. Dr. Beckman’s exceptional body of work ultimately earned him 14 patents and more than 30 prestigious honors including the National Medal of Science, the Presidential Citizens Medal, the National Medal of Technology and induction into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. This remarkable man begins a new century dedicated to the same mission that dominated his first: the advancement of science. Today, his impact is felt through the philanthropic activities of his Foundation, which range from science education for young children to awards that support leading-edge research in the life sciences. And, in his conversations with employees at the company now known as Beckman Coulter, he continues to inspire us to excel. In fact, what we are today, and what we will become tomorrow, reflects our founder’s century of commitment to excellence. Happy Birthday, Dr. Beckman! |
