Millipore’s “pure opportunity” increases with every biotechnology breakthrough and every new generation of semiconductor chip. From a larger perspective, the pure opportunity is with societal needs – for pure drugs, pure beverages, pure research, pure electronics. This year’s annual report takes a look at what we are purifying – and the impact of that purification on all kinds of people, from babies to sages and everyone in-between.

Take monoclonal antibodies. These highly-specific proteins are used for quick determination of pregnancy and for promising new cancer therapies. There are now 74 monoclonal antibodies in pre-clinical and clinical stages of development. Millipore purification technologies are used in discovery, scale-up and manufacturing of monoclonals. And Millipore membrane is a substrate in most of the 100 million or so home pregnancy test kits used each year.
