Soup to Nuts
As the largest distributor of foodservice products in North America, SYSCO assists customers in creating a vast array of dining choices. Menus have greatly improved since a French chef named Boulanger offered a choice of soups, or "restoratives," to patrons who paused at his inn to refresh themselves as they traveled during the 1700s. The sign in French read "restaurant," and his establishment may have been the first to offer a menu.
Today's diverse menu choices could not have been imagined then - raspberries from Australia served fresh in Wisconsin in January; gourmet pesto sauce rich with garlic, fresh basil and pine nuts delivered to a Vancouver chef's doorstep; or artfully prepared hearts of lettuce served in an Arizona college cafeteria each day. Providing choices from soup to nuts, and everything in between, SYSCO leads the way in helping chefs in restaurants, schools, business cafeterias, health care locations, lodging and other facilities increase the variety and quality of food choices in North America.
