The Industrial & Consumer Products Group (ICPG) of Caraustar produces tubes and cores, composite containers, adhesives, plastics and other specialty packaging products for both industrial and consumer end-use markets. Since its inception in 1955 with a single manufacturing site, the business unit has contributed continuous and solid growth in serving customer needs in a wide variety of industrial and consumer end-use markets.

In the industrial segment of the business, ICPG manufactures a wide range of spiral- and convolute-wound tubes to service customers in the end-use markets of textiles, carpet and floor covering; synthetic fiber and yarn; pulp and paper; plastic film and flexible packaging; aluminum and metal; tape and label; mining, wire and cable; automotive, construction and a host of other specialty applications.

On the consumer side, spiral-wound composite containers, injection-molded products and a variety of metal and aluminum end closures are supplied to customers who produce a variety of products for retail consumers. These products include fiber and plastic caulk cartridges that are most often seen in hardware and home improvement stores, cartridges and canisters for packaging grease and other lubricants seen in automotive supply stores and containers for packaging nuts, candy, powdered beverage mix, infant formula and a host of other food products seen in grocery stores.

Composite containers for consumer end-use markets are produced from a “composite” of raw materials such as paperboard, aluminum foil liners, printed labels for the outer wrap, metal and foil ends, plastic plungers and plastic tips. Caraustar’s ICPG was the first U.S. producer of a ring-pull
aluminum membrane end (K-SAFE®) used as closures for composite cans.

ICPG produces several other products for industrial applications, such as the Protect-A-Board (PAB) edge protector product line, a laminated paperboard formed at a right angle that is most often used for edge or corner protection and support for palletized packaging. Protect-A-Board products are manufactured in five locations: Austell, GA; Arlington, TX; Lancaster, PA; Tacoma, WA and Mexico City, Mexico. Another product within this business unit is water-based adhesive — used primarily by paper and paperboard converters, with much of the production used internally by Caraustar operations. Adhesive production is located in a modern and technologically advanced facility in Kernersville, NC.
