Industrial grades sold by RFG include bleached pulp, solid bleached
board and papers and unbleached kraft linerboard and bag kraft.
These grades are purchased in rolls, sheets and bales from virgin
fiber paper mills that do not operate their own recovered fiber
plants. RFG also buys a wide variety of grades from paper converters
that include printers, folding carton manufacturers, envelope plants
and paper plate makers. These various grades are sold world-wide
to mills that make household tissue and toweling, recycled papers
and paperboard, molded pulp food carry-out trays, plates and recycled
paperboard for boxes and bags. Some of these materials are even
used in insulation applications.

Another niche market for RFG is high grade papers and paperboard,
which includes mill overruns, seconds, trims and damaged stock sold
to packaging converters around the world. Some of the end-use products
include bags, boxes, plates, cartons, poster board, photo albums
and file folders. The addition of specialized equipment, such as
large roll
guillotines and salvage saws to cut large rolls generated at paper
mills, gives the RFG plants the capabiity to accept any size roll
generated at any paper mill in the U.S.
The RFG also conducts inspection audits at manufacturing plants
and paper mills to ensure that they have options to divert recyclable
fiber from being landfilled. RFG has the capability to design recovery
systems and install balers for these operations as needed.
Buying and selling in a global marketplace makes Caraustar a leader
in securing low-cost fiber for our mills and developing new opportunities
that improve our competitive position in fiber sales and trading.
