The Custom Packaging Group (CPG) is Anticipating Continued Growth

Exciting product innovations like RepelKote™ are helping to increase packaging sales to customers who manufacture flour, bake mixes, pasta, cereal, rice, pet food treats and other food products. This patented coating process treats packaging surfaces with natural food additive oils that repel insects, but are non-toxic to humans and animals. Laboratory and warehouse tests involving accelerated exposure to beetles and moths have shown no infestations in cartons treated with this FDA-compliant, EPA-approved coating.

RepelKote is also generating additional revenue for the CPG through licensing agreements with companies in the multi-wall bag industry. The CPG is in the process of licensing this technology abroad.

Another innovative product, EconoPour®, is attracting customers in a variety of industries. Originally developed to win the business of a leading baby food manufacturer, EconoPour pour spouts are now used by major manufacturers of granular dishwashing detergent, cereal and kitty litter. EconoPour packaging involves an integral paperboard pour spout, reducing costs for customers by eliminating the secondary operation involved in adding metal or plastic pour spout fitments to packages.

The EconoPour feature allows customers to get their products to market more quickly and provides consumers with a safe and easy-to-use pour spout.

The CPG continued to provide high-quality packaging to customers in pharmaceutical, healthcare, dry foods, candy, sporting goods and many other industries in 2001.

Increased Efficiency and Improved Technology

To support anticipated growth in its market segments, the CPG has taken numerous steps to improve efficiency at its 24 U.S.-operated manufacturing facilities. For example, the CPG have installed a state-of-the-art, 10-station UV printing press at the carton facility in Versailles, Connecticut. This press has improved its ability to meet customer needs in the cosmetic, personal care, software and golf ball industries, where packaging with higher gloss coatings or high-end, multicolored printing on foil surfaces is usually required.
