Austell Boxboard Mill #2 is continuing its efficient and effective production rate. The demand for specialty market mill products has remained steady while orders are increasing for high-strength tube and core ultrex grades.

The Mill Group also invested in several manufacturing facilities to strengthen its ability to better serve existing clients and expand into new markets. Carolina Paperboard is currently installing a sophisticated sheeting operation that will increase efficiency and improve sheet dimension tolerances.

Specialty Markets Enhance Mill Group Business

The automotive industry utilizes products from the Mill Group in manufacturing sun visors, trunk lids and other automotive components.Austell Boxboard Mill #1 developed a new market in 2001 with the production of lightweight bending chip grades to supply manufacturers of envelope cartons. Carotell Paperboard continued to develop new mat board picture framing products and lower density products for paper roll headers.Carolina Component Concepts and Carolina Converting have combined resources to enable virtually unlimited converting capabilities for sales, design, laminating and die-cutting, with a competitive focus within the custom component markets.

Caraustar's uncoated paperboard is the perfect foundation for the paperboard components of many converted consumer products.

The recent installation of new laminating, die-cutting and assembly equipment will increase efficiency in its production of paperboard components for items such as puzzles, games, photo frame components and specialty packaging. The Specialty Division facilities of the Mill Group produce materials used in everyday consumer products such as heating-air conditioning filter frames, picture frame components, school and office products, carpet sample books and paperboard backing for loose leaf notebooks.

New Lightweight Gypsum Paper Penetrates Market

Premier Boxboard Limited, our joint venture with Inland Paperboard, is utilizing the newest multi-ply Fourdrinier forming technology to produce a strong, lightweight three-ply gypsum facing paper for the wallboard industry. Demand for this new product has grown rapidly since its introduction last year, and should expand even faster as the wallboard industry realizes important cost savings and quality benefits from this lightweight facing paper.

The Gypsum Division is expanding its product offering with the introduction of a new coated facing paper that allows manufacturers to produce prefinished gypsum wallboard and predecorated gypsum panels. The prefinished panels can be used in various interior construction applications including lay-in ceiling panels, relocatable wall systems, mobile homes and upscale drywall interiors.
