Rubicon Technology, Inc. is an advanced electronic materials provider that develops, manufactures and sells mono-crystalline sapphire and other crystalline products for light-emitting diodes (LEDs), radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs), blue laser diodes, optoelectronics and other optical applications. We apply our proprietary ES2 crystal growth technology to produce very high-quality sapphire in a form that allows for volume production of various sizes and orientations of substrates and windows.

From its inception in 2000, Rubicon recruited and sought the advice of experts in sapphire crystal formation and processing, as well as optoelectronics and semiconductors, in a quest to redefine the end-to-end process of sapphire wafer manufacturing. As a vertically integrated manufacturer, Rubicon today has capabilities that span the entire industrial sapphire value chain—from raw material processing and crystal growth (including designing and building its own crystal growth furnaces) to high-precision core drilling, wafer slicing, surface lapping, large-diameter polishing, and wafer cleaning processes. These capabilities are used to convert the bulk crystal into products with the quality and precision specified by its customers. Rubicon is the world leader in larger-diameter products to support next-generation LED, RFIC and optical window applications.

Expected market growth due to the widespread adoption of LEDs in general lighting and consumer electronics—and the growing diversity of applications for sapphire—continue to raise the bar for sapphire suppliers. Rubicon’s ability to affordably produce larger wafers is key to helping the LED industry reduce cost and scale to the volumes necessary to support rapid growth in LED production.
