Mill Group Product Improvements
Reach Out to Consumers
The Coated Mill Division's Rittman Paperboard facility has perfected a new, environmentally safe, grease-resistant coated paperboard, Statone, for packaging food products and pet treats. This treated paperboard helps keep products fresh and prevents grease and oils from degrading packaging and product quality.
The Sprague Paperboard mill has developed InverTop, a 100% recycled kraft top sheet that allows for extensive graphics on fluted packaging for products such as snack foods and sporting goods. A lightweight version of InverTop, 0.010 caliper, is answering customers' needs for strong, lightweight mini-flute materials for bulk packaged products commonly found in wholesale, discount and club stores.
InverFreez, another Sprague Paperboard product, provides a superb substitute for coated natural kraft used in frozen and refrigerated food packaging. InverFreez retains its integrity and protects products during the refrigeration and freeze/thaw cycles required by this type of packaging.

Mill Division Continues Improvements
Both Sprague Paperboard and Rittman Paperboard mills made improvements in coating and cleaning systems in 2001 to enhance quality and increase sales opportunities.
The Reading Paperboard mill continues to improve and develop high-strength grades for the tube and core market. These new paperboard grades improve the quality of paperboard tubes and cores utilized by manufacturers of carpets, fiber glass, yarn, paper and many other materials.
In 2001, Cincinnati Paperboard expanded its product offering of specialty dyed chipboard for use in the ready-to-assemble furniture market in order to attract a broader customer base.
