During 2005, we continued to support our communities, contributing to efforts that dramatically help people in need—at home, across the country, and around the world. We accomplish this through several means. First, we make direct corporate contributions to worthy causes and supported 64 separate organizations during 2005. Second, when major national or international disasters strike, such as Hurricane Katrina or 2004’s Tsunami, we organize fundraising drives among our employees and provide a corporate match to what our employees contribute. Third, we have our “MacMatch” program, where we match our employees’ contributions to charities of their choice up to a certain budgeted amount each year.
Including direct corporate contributions, employee contributions through Indymac and MacMatch, Indymac contributed over $1.2 million to worthy charitable organizations in 2005. Highlighting the year were the Hurricane Katrina Relief efforts, for which we have raised over $275,000, United Way, for which we raised $110,000, and the YMCA. Our charitable giving efforts also support less well known but equally important organizations like the Hathaway-Sycamores, a home for abused and neglected children in the Pasadena area, and Verbum Dei High School in south central Los Angeles, where we help support a corporate work study program that gives underprivileged teens marketable business skills.
Our heartfelt thanks to all of Indymac’s employees who contributed so generously to these efforts—either through monetary contributions, or with their time and talents—and, in doing so, helped advance our reputation as an organization that works to make a difference.
