Latin America

Duke Energy International's investment in Aguaytia Energy, Peru's first integrated energy project, began commercial operation in 1998. It features:

  • 125 miles of natural gas pipeline;
  • Natural gas processing facilities to extract NGLs from 55 MMcf/d;
  • 65 miles of NGL pipelines;
  • Natural gas fractionation, storage and distribution facilities;
  • 155 MW natural gas-fired power plant; and
  • 250-mile high-voltage transmission line to move energy from central Peru across the Andes to the coast.

Duke Energy International purchased a 51.5 percent interest in Electroquil SA in 1998, an electric generation company with:

  • Four diesel-powered units with 168 MW capacity; and
  • Long-term power sales contracts to Inecel, Ecuador's state utility.

Duke Energy has the opportunity to bring to Ecuador its full scope of services related to ownership, development and operations of energy facilities.
