In 1998, earnings before interest and taxes for Other Energy Services decreased $8 million compared to 1997, primarily due to decreased earnings of Duke Engineering & Services. Earnings before interest and taxes for Other Energy Services decreased $2 million in 1997 compared to 1996, primarily as a result of start-up expenses of DukeSolutions partially offset by increased earnings of Duke Engineering & Services due to growth.
