As a physician, when we make a diagnosis, we always have the patient's best interest in mind.
So much goes into a diagnosis, and you have to remember that someone is waiting anxiously for those results."

Without the right people-people like Andy
Edelman-we can't focus on the patient and we
can't grow. Our 38,000 employees have a passion
for the patient that stems from the social value of
the work they perform day in and day out.
Diagnostic testing represents a tiny fraction-
less than 3%-of healthcare spending, yet drives
the vast majority-over 70%-of healthcare
decisions. That is an enormous social responsibility
and one that our employees readily accept with a
great deal of pride.
Our goal is to create a work environment in which
people can give shape to their dreams. We value
and care for our employees. We invest to make
them smarter, healthier, highly trained and
motivated so they can take better care of patients,
themselves and each other. We provide a wide
range of training and continuing education
options for our people, to maintain the highest
levels of skills and service.
As a healthcare company, we are also committed
to improving the health of everyone at Quest
Diagnostics. That's why we offer them Blueprint
for Wellness, an employee benefit that uses
diagnostic testing to identify health risks as well
as potential lifestyle changes. We are also
helping to turn each of our employees into
ambassadors with patients, doctors and others
within their community.
We want to become a truly diverse company-
one that values the importance of differences-
of thought, of perspective, of ideas, of personality,
and of experience. Recently, Chicago Magazine
recognized us for our "exceptional" efforts to
promote diversity within the company.
We are proud of the way our employees put
patients first through volunteering. During 2004,
through their volunteer efforts, our employees
raised and contributed more than $1.1 million
through more than 650 events across the
company. In addition, Quest Diagnostics supports
the American Cancer Society nationally and champions
hundreds of other charitable organizations
throughout the United States. These contributions
and our employees' volunteer efforts help the
communities in which we all live and work and
exemplify our purpose as a healthcare company
of people caring for other people.
