Hero curve

Innovative

Innovation has been a core value at Allstate dating back to the 1930s, when we began selling insurance through direct mail and basing rates on how customers used their cars. Innovation remains a top priority, as seen in the recent opening of our innovation hub, the introduction of interesting new products and the completion of several exciting partnerships and acquisitions. Going forward, we’ll continue looking for creative ways to better serve our customers and improve the world around us.

Nurturing Creative, Cutting-edge Thinking

With the opening of our innovation hub in downtown Chicago, we’re furthering our history of innovation and accelerating the delivery of cutting-edge products and services to customers. The new space provides a creative environment for employees to leverage innovation, data and technology in ways that will help us bring even more exciting protection solutions to consumers. It’s no surprise that in 2016, InformationWeek magazine named Allstate a top 10 innovator of the decade.

Recognizing Innovators in Our Communities

In addition to cultivating innovation within, Allstate also recognizes and rewards innovation in society-at-large. Through The Renewal Project, Allstate and Atlantic Media Strategies are chronicling the social innovation taking place in communities across the country as America renews itself from the ground up. We find and tell the stories of pragmatic problem solvers wherever they are and celebrate their spirit of innovation, resilience and ingenuity. In 2016, we honored six organizations with Renewal Awards for their innovative approaches to tackling persistent issues affecting communities across the country. Winners each received a $10,000 grant from Allstate to continue this important work.

Embracing New Technology – Redefining Our Business

It’s one thing to begin using a new technology; it’s something else to launch a completely new business around it. Allstate recently did that with Arity, a telematics company based in Chicago’s Merchandise Mart offering data-collection and insights-delivery services. The new company takes data from sensors in cars, mobile phones and other sources and turns that data into actionable insights to improve consumers’ lives.

Offering Consumers New Protection Solutions

In 2016, we expanded the solutions we offer consumers to reduce risk in their lives with two innovative new options. We acquired SquareTrade, a rapidly growing consumer protection plan provider primarily focused on consumer electronics and connected devices. We also rolled out a brand new product, HostAdvantage, an endorsement to provide gap coverage to homeowners who temporarily rent out their homes as part of the sharing economy. We were first-to-market among major insurers in offering personal property protection targeted to the needs of home-sharing hosts.

Innovative Tools to Help Customers Rebuild and Recover

Last year, we introduced creative new tools to help expedite claim processing and get customers back on their feet as quickly as possible. First, we began using drones to inspect hail-damaged roofs in Texas. This helped our claim adjusters more quickly view and assess damage in areas where access was limited. Drones provide us with an opportunity to better deliver fast, fair and easy claim settlement. We also partnered with Mastercard on QuickCard Pay, the latest and fastest payment method in the company's ExpressPay network. We were the first U.S. property-casualty company to use this service, and it’s the fastest existing payment solution available.
