– Millipore doubled capacity of its Cork, Ireland plant to manufacture specialized membranes used in lateral flow immunoassays.

– As one of its 30th anniversary activities, Nihon Millipore sponsored a technical symposium for scientists and customers. The keynote speaker for the event was Dr. Leona Esaki, 1973 Nobel Laureate in Physics.

– Millipore completed its integrated global IT infrastructure to include Japan and to be Year 2000 compliant. European operations also completed system preparations for the 1999 introduction of the Euro.

– Millipore’s intranet was recognized by CIO™ Magazine as a Top 50 Intranet Site in 1998.

– Millipore’s manufacturing facility in Brazil achieved ISO 9002 certification.

– Millipore’s manufacturing operations worldwide continued to improve their efficiencies and exceed environmental milestones. Since 1990, all manufacturing plants worldwide reduced the total amount of chemical emissions by 73 percent. In 1998, chemical emissions were reduced 18 percent from 1997.
