Duratek-Operated Facility Receives Technical Innovation Award

“Our real mission is environmental cleanup, I am very proud to assist in presenting [this] award that recognizes the efforts and innovation of our projects and employees.”

Fluor Hanford, DOE’s prime contractor who oversees cleanup of the Hanford Site, presented the Duratek-operated Waste Receiving and Processing Facility (WRAP) with a Technical Innovation Award. WRAP developed and gained approval for a new way to process drum lids to avoid using a cleaning solvent and mastic containing methyl ethyl ketone, a regulated dangerous waste. The improvement provides an annual cost avoidance of $42,000, and halts the generation and costly disposal of dangerous waste, while reducing process time and exposure for workers repackaging transuranic waste.
