Duratek-Operated Facility Receives Technical Innovation Award

“Our real mission is environmental cleanup, I am very proud to assist in presenting [this] award that recognizes the efforts and innovation of our projects and employees.” Ron Gallagher, Fluor Hanford president and CEO Fluor Hanford, DOE’s prime contractor who oversees cleanup of the Hanford Site, presented the Duratek-operated Waste Receiving and Processing Facility (WRAP) with a Technical Innovation Award. WRAP developed and gained approval for a new way to process drum lids to avoid using a cleaning solvent and mastic containing methyl ethyl ketone, a regulated dangerous waste. The improvement provides an annual cost avoidance of $42,000, and halts the generation and costly disposal of dangerous waste, while reducing process time and exposure for workers repackaging transuranic waste.
