Our newly acquired specialty films business has
extended the Bemis product reach into shrink film packaging for
fresh red meat, cheese, poultry and industrial markets. With operations
in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Brazil, the shrink
film business expands the Bemis manufacturing footprint worldwide
and supplements our existing high barrier product lines manufactured
and marketed in those countries. This patented shrink film technology
was previously unavailable to Bemis and complements our material
science expertise, creating new opportunities for innovation in
shrink as well as other high barrier film products.
 Meat
and cheese shrink packaging
are the primary markets for our newly
acquired specialty films product line.
Bemis
has also acquired Kanzakis direct thermal pressure sensitive
materials product line in the United States. This expands the breadth
of the roll label product line as well as its customer base. Direct
thermal pressure sensitive products, one of the fastest growing
market segments in the roll label market, are used in variable printing
applications such as deli weighing machines, luggage tags, shipping
labels and medical laboratory environments. These tailored labels
are printed on demand without the need of an ink cartridge. A printed
label is created when heat and pressure release the ink that has
been embedded into the paper. Beginning in 2001, our pressure sensitive
materials operations will use existing Bemis facilities to apply
the adhesive material to the specialized paper and ship it to customers
in the United States.
 Direct
thermal pressure sensitive
labels are used in a variety of applications.
