evaluate film composition and analyze barrier strength and consistency.

Since the majority of the packages we sell in the Flexible Packaging business are printed, graphics capabilities are a significant source of expertise and competitive advantage for Bemis. We are vertically integrated, offering customers our graphic design and color separation expertise. Bemis manufacturing operators work directly with graphic designers to create the highest quality printed package. Our state-of-the-art printing presses significantly improve our manufacturing efficiencies with robotics to reduce press idle-time during change over to new colors.

During fiscal 2000, we initiated a Six Sigma program to improve efficiency in our operations. Six Sigma refers to a philosophy of focusing a business team on best practices to consistently meet both customer requirements and measurable financial performance goals. Initial efforts are being focused on operations that possess the greatest opportunity for visible improvement. Using Six Sigma, we expect to deliver measurable improvement in production efficiencies and financial performance, and to extend the initiative to other product lines in the future.
