PUSHING FOR A CURE

Community Relations: Health

For the 13th consecutive year, Cymer was a sponsor of the UCSD Luau and Longboard Invitational. San Diego companies created teams alongside surfing legends to “Surf for a Cure” at Scripps Pier in La Jolla. As a longstanding tradition, Cymer donated a custom surfboard for the auction held at the luau. Over the years the event has raised more than $5 million towards cancer research at the Moore’s UCSD Cancer Center.

The Huntington’s Disease Society of America hosted its annual Shoot To Cure event and Cymer was there for the 5th consecutive year as a proud sponsor. Teams of ten were formed for a fast paced free throw competition to raise funding and awareness for Huntington’s Disease. More than 600 people attended the event to learn more about the disease and what they can do to help find a cure.

As one of the biggest volunteer events at Cymer, the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk is always an exciting time of the year. Team Cymer boasted over 70 walkers this year in the 4-mile trek around Balboa Park. Raising the most money in Cymer history, the team collected over $41,000 towards cancer research, placing 17th in the nation as a top twenty fundraising team.
