At BSkyB we recognise our responsibility in caring for the environment. To demonstrate this commitment, I am pleased to enclose our first environmental report - giving you the chance to see our actions take shape over the coming months.

There is much to be done, but already substantial steps have been made over the past months. These include:

• Carrying out a full review of BSkyB's activities to understand where we impact the environment in order to make and manage improvements.
• Drafting an Environmental Policy, which lays out our commitments in relation to protecting the environment, and promoting it to all BSkyB employees through our staff magazine 'Vision'.
• Appointing an Environmental Committee to regularly discuss environmental issues and drive forward improvements in our environmental performance.
• Working with our manufacturers and suppliers to help reduce the energy consumption of the consumer products with which Sky is associated.

From our employees and to all of our stakeholders, we have a shared responsibility to make the Environmental Policy work. With my full support, our new Environmental Committee will push forward our programme of environmental improvements in the future.
